What the Opal Association Is

The Opal Association Incorporated is the peak industry body representing the Australian opal trade. It includes opal miners, cutters, dealers, and retailers operating across the opal fields of Australia, including Lightning Ridge, Queensland, Coober Pedy, and surrounding regions.

Membership is not automatic. Members are required to meet the association’s standards for ethical conduct, accurate representation of gemstones, and fair dealing with customers. The association exists to promote the integrity of the Australian opal industry and protect both buyers and sellers within it.

What Membership Means for Our Customers

When you purchase from Opal Galaxy, you are dealing with a business that is accountable not only under Australian consumer law but also to the standards of the peak body for the opal industry. Our membership number is OAM 464.

This means our opals are represented accurately. We do not sell treated opals as natural, doublets as solid stones, or Ethiopian material as Australian. What is described is what you receive.
